Jason Workman
Jason Workman began racing in the highly competitive European indoor karting scene. After a quick reputation for achieving victories, Workman moved to open-wheel formula cars. Workman attended the Skip Barber Racing School where he was a standout from the start. He won 2 podiums and 1 win in his first 6 events in the Formula Dodge Racing Series (1996). After this successful introduction to formula racing, Workman amazingly chalked up the SCCA-SARRC Formula Continental Championship that same year with 4 wins and 7 podiums competing in only half the races.
The next season, Workman elected to take his career to Europe where he competed in the EFDA Formula Opel Championship. After less than satisfying results, Workman returned to the US in 1998 and immediately returned to his winning ways with 2 wins out of 4 events in the National Formula Ford 2000 Championship. A fourth place finish at the Valvoline National Runoffs was another highlight that year.
In 1999, he returned to Europe for some unfinished business after agreeing to drive for Valvoline/EagleOne Europe in the Nordic Formula Ford 2000 Championship. His determination was rewarded as Workman became one of a few Americans to ever win a European Championship crown! With 8 wins, 10 poles, and 4 track records, it was a most dominant performance in the history of the series.
After spending two seasons in on-off Euro Cup & Nordic Formula Renault races, Workman shifted his focus back to the USA and the American Le Mans Series. He finished second at Petit Le Mans in the LMP675 class two years straight, followed by a full season driving for Essex Racing in a Lola-Nissan. Consistency and points-scoring finishes kept Workman in the Championship hunt through to the final race of the season. His consistency earned him the third place trophy in the 2003 LMP675 Championship and official 4th place finish in the championship standings.
His move to American Spirit Racing and a return to LMP675 (LMP2 now) for 2004 means a very promising new season for Jason Workman. For a driver who has won more than one series championship, Workman must be considered one of the favorites to win the LMP2 crown in 2004.
